Monotypes
I needed to find a different approach to painting flowers. The beauty of a flower with all it’s perfection and harmony intimidated me.
On a gray wintry day in Santa Fe, I had the desire to paint colorful, fluid images of flowers. After experimenting with various methods, I discovered that doing oil monotypes fulfilled my desire for vibrant colors and spontaneous strokes. Monotypes are lifted from oil paint on glass and transferred onto paper. This approach has allowed me to express the movement inherent in blossoms in a more abstract and fluid manner. Lifting the paper from the glass is always a delightful and unpredictable surprise.
