Landscape Art
I’m attracted to the juxtaposition of geometric architectural shapes with the more free-flowing forms in nature. I love the challenge of painting on site. The passage of time and changes in light compel me to finish the painting right there, fostering a more immediate and spontaneous interpretation of the scene.
No matter the medium, my desire is to capture the intensity of light and the vibrancy of color around me. I find that I best represent the essence of each and the contrast between the two when I work in an Impressionistic style.
Currently I’m captivated by the sensuality and fluidity of watercolor. At once I’m challenged and enraptured by the capacity of watercolor to capture a mood; the allure beckons me to go back in the studio for yet another challenging creative adventure.
I have the utmost reverence for the spontaneous and vibrant style in John Singer Sargent’s watercolors.
Evan Charteris writes the following about John Singer Sargent:
“To live with Sargent's watercolors is to live with sunshine captured and held.”
Monet’s Impressionistic style continues to inspire me, along with his manipulation of light and shadow to portray a landscape.
